Manoj Kumar & Sumit Kamboj took out the title of Hawkes Bay/Wairarapa Share Farming of the Year at the recent Dairy Industry Awards. They also happen to be a client of MCI’s Associate Principal, Aaron Karena.
Mirok Farm operates two 50/50 Sharemilking operations - Chessfield and Kakariki in the Tararua region. They work more than 260ha of land, with 745 cows. Both of these farms offer their share of challenges with natural hazards and steep areas to maintain and work.
Aaron from MCI has worked with Mirok Farm for a number of years now and has helped to implement systems and processes to make farm management easier. Aaron works with the team on a number of things from accounting and taxation compliance support and cash flow and budgeting, right through to business strategy and company compliance.
The team focus on scenario analysis and have a strategy in place to ensure they are on track to hit their business goals and ensure growth is occurring at the desired rate. They capture and analyse their production and farm data to ensure a number of markers are improving year on year, including their milk production, cow reproduction rates, and pasture grown and harvested. They have shown growth in these key markers year-on-year, and this just proves how essential a business strategy is for successful farming.
Manoj and Sumit are very passionate about what they do and this is so clear through their farming style and amount of care given to their animals. Their vision is to be one of the most resilient dairy farming businesses, while also working to protect and nurture the environment for the future generation. They are determined to transition into farm ownership/equity partnership in the next few years, while boosting their cashflow and minimising debt, and they have been working closely with Aaron to come up with options for doing this. Aaron will continue to work closely with the team, and continue to help them to set goals and KPI’s which are both realistic yet challenging.
Manoj and Sumit are now off to the National Dairy Industry Awards held at the Claudelands Events Centre, Hamilton on Saturday 15th May, 2021. We wish them all the best to take home another win!
