Supporting Locals and the Accounting Industry

Currently we’re seeing high demand for accountants in New Zealand. According to New Zealand’s largest job search engine, accountants are one of the top 10 most in-demand roles in the country for 2023.

MCI & Associates, with offices in both Dannevirke and Pahiatua, are aware of the need for more accountants in the region and are committed to supporting those wishing to begin their accounting career. By again offering a scholarship opportunity, this time for 2024 students, MCI provide financial and mentoring support to the successful candidate. The scholarship is available to those living locally, or who have attended secondary school in the area, and who are enrolling in study in accounting or a similar field. The scholarship offers $1,000 towards the study fees or study costs for students in their first year. Included in the scholarship package is the opportunity to work in either office over the summer holidays to gain a realistic view of work in the accounting industry, whilst being in a supportive and encouraging environment. The candidate may also be entitled to an extension of the scholarship in their subsequent years of study.

The accounting profession is a wonderful long-term career option; there are many career opportunities nationally and internationally. According to the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE), “A good accountant is key to the financial health and success of businesses” – an integral role to be studying towards. Working with a firm that has a good mix of commercial and agricultural clients in the wonderful community that is the talented Tararua, enables the development of long-term relationships, which is key to understanding clients’ businesses and business goals. MCI are proud to be able to inform and instil this in the next generation of accountants.

Being a locally owned business with staff also ‘born and bred’ in the area, MCI is passionate about supporting the success and growth of the region. Succession and career planning plays an important part of the business and MCI is continually working towards supporting growth for all staffing positions within the firm. MCI value and encourage training and upskilling; extending current skill sets that supports personal development and complements the team’s expertise and offerings for clients. For MCI to  have the opportunity to help someone kick-start their career and then be a part of their growth and development is incredibly rewarding.
